Today, we are launching a brand refresh for the Fact-Checkers Legal Support Initiative (FLSI).
Fact-checking work has played a vital role in the Covid-19 pandemic, tackling online disinformation and helping debunk untruths. During last month’s U.S. presidential election, fact-checkers have been doing a vital work of holding candidates to account up until election day and beyond.
As a result, fact-checkers are facing an increasingly hostile environment. At a time when the term “fake news” has been weaponised, fact-checkers themselves are being targeted with online harassment and threatened with legal action. The FLSI provides legal defence for fact-checkers, helping to pay legal fees where pro bono support Is not available. To date, the FLSI has had a 70% case success rate and the win in court can help strengthen protection for all fact-checkers around the world. The FLSI has also published legal guides for fact-checkers covering the main legal and non-legal risks they face and how to mitigate them.
The refreshed visual identity is bold and to the point, with a new logo that clearly states who we are and what we do, so that we can continue, and expand, our work supporting fact-checkers, globally.
Many thanks to Wurtemberg for their work on our visual identity.
